I usually watch videos from my favorite YouTubers to improve my data visualization skills. That’s how I was prompted to use the flow map for this project.

Instead of using the usual planes or airports dataset, I made this project more personal and useful by building a dashboard based on all my travels. I had the opportunity to start traveling every year as a child which gave me the taste of adventure. Years later, I have started exploring more and more the world so I’ve compiled all the data into a google sheet to build my travel map.
Data source description:
If you want to reuse this Power BI project with your data, find below the dataset’s structure.
Build a table or an Excel sheet with the following columns for the travel data:
Departure date (date)
Return date (date)
Origin (City name)
Destination (City name)
Region (Region name)
Country (English Country name)
Continent (Continent name)
Type (Family or Friends or Alone, but you can adapt these categories)
Transportation (Plane or Bus or Car or Train)
Nb Travellers (Number of people who traveled with you)
Build a table or an Excel sheet with the following columns for the geographical data:
Latitude (Decimal value)
Longitude (Decimal value)
City (City name)
Region (Region name)
Country (English Country name)
Continent (Continent name)
Let's explore the result
The dashboard's main page gives a global view of all travels completed. The 4 graphs display high-level distributions according to time, continent, and country. Power BI interactive filtering allows precise data updates according to selected values.

The second page of the dashboard presents the interactive maps of all travels. The synthetic design allows us to add graphs complementing the information presented as well as key KPIs for a full understanding of the data.

Find below the data model implemented in Power BI:

See you in the next dashboard!
